If it's just for enjoyment/something to do while I'm on the BART, I generally read everything either in chronological order, or I might skip a book or so if I was in the mood for a later book. And if it's one I'm familiar with, I do the "Cliffs Notes" version, skipping over some of the long descriptions and just zeroing in the dialogue and major points (which at that point, I'm already familiar with). Other times I'm reading it to glean a piece or two of information that I plum forgot, so I go into scan mode and briefly glance at every page or so until I find whatever I'm looking for (usually a name or word or phrase). Or, if I'm working on a website and need quotes/character info, I scan again for the characters' name, etc. I haven't yet tried to do it in publishing order. The order that I read it in is actually the order that the person who got me into Brust told me to do. He swore it would make the most sense his way. I don't think it was exactly chronological, at least not according to other orders I've seen, but it worked. Shame on me, but I haven't even read _Issola_ yet. I don't buy anything hardback, and the only friend I had with the book, I had a lot of other books on my list already. But I'm fairly sure it's in paperback now, or will be soon, so I'll probably bump it up in the queue and read it soon. ****** NyteMuse "Call her life unnatural, feel her undead breath.
