The short version was, with _To Reign in Hell_; I didn't like it all that much but I had several other Brust books so I read them and became a fan. The longer version: I used to work part-time at "The Other Change of Hobbit" in Berkeley. One day, one of the regular customers came in and said, "Ooh, look, a new Brust." (I'm pretty sure it was _Taltos_ that was the new book.) I hadn't heard of Brust before, so we discussed him a bit. Later that year, I wanted to buy some books to take on a family trip, so I bought _To Reign in Hell_, _Brokedown Palace_, _Jhereg_, _Yendi_, _Teckla_, and _Taltos_. In retrospect this seems like a lot of books to buy "on spec", but I was younger then and paperbacks were cheaper. -- David Goldfarb <*>|"English cuisine is the cuisine of fear." goldfarb at ocf.berkeley.edu | goldfarb at csua.berkeley.edu | -- Andrew Conway
