I seem to remember somewhere that the #Great Weapons somehow know who their owner is, and only that person can #wield the weapon. Also, I believe that all of the Great Weapons were #created long before any of the present characters were around (with the #probable exception of Sethra, Kieron, and the gods), however Godslayer #was dismantled. But Vlad *was* around, and so was Aliera. I forget what his name was when he was their brother, but his soul was in the world at or before the beginning of the Empire. #And perhaps there is some bonding that goes on, as the Great Weapon #connects with and starts protecting the wielder's soul. However, I #don't think its anything like what Vlad went through in order to #recreate Godslayer. We don't know, and we wouldn't. *We* saw what Vlad went through because he tells us (tells Brust the Interviewer, or whatever), but I don't think any of that would have been visible to an onlooker. Maybe Aliera went through something of the kind when she won Pathfinder from StY, and Vlad and Cawti thought she was simply catching her breath after the duel. -- Mark A.
