As I recall, her response to him not seeing it was that, if the defender would just lie down and be subjugated, there would be no need for the war. But that's like saying "Hey, if a bully is beating on you, and you don't fight back, it's not really a fight; it's just a beat-down. It's only a fight when you fight back."
