I was born in April of 1979 in Panama, we moved to the US in 1987, and I was mostly fluent in English by around 1989. Which means no 70's *and* no 80's. Not to mention the early 90's, as I didn't exactly dive into pop culture as soon as I could understand the language. I've got major gaps of knowledge. I've only recently discovered Bill Hicks (speaking of comedy), and as for my intro to sci-fi/fantasy... Well, it's weird. I read Lord of the Rings as I was learning English sometime in 1989 (4th grade or so)(my mother put me up to it; not that I regret it). I never realized that it was a "genre" book. In fact, I didn't even know there were genres. I just read whatever caught my fancy. But I remember being in one of my school libraries trying to find books on magic (as in magic tricks), and one of the books I found was Eddings' Magician's Gambit, which I grabbed along with the other stuff. So that's how I got started. Sort of. Jose -- Jose Marquez jhereg69 at earthlink.net
