<snip, snip go the quotes...> Ok, I've gotta abandon my lurker status here (as a very recent addition to the list) as far as the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour goes, since it was something of a major part of my childhood... The show ran from (I think) 1966 to 69, when CBS cancelled it due to one-too-many run-ins with the network censors. The comedy duo spent a LOT of time ruffling the feathers of anyone in the political right. Such things as breaking the anti-communist blacklist by bringing Pete Seeger on to perform--and insisting that he be allowed to perform a song that was strongly anti-Vietnam war. Lots of other stuff happening on the show in a similar vein; if you're really curious about 60s relics (like me!), the Bravo network ran an excellent two-hour program on the Smothers Brothers that's bound to be repeated ad nauseum. That particular rant out of the way, I've got to say that I'm enjoying reading this list--lotsa activity!
