_WFG_ is a short, mostly accessible play, famous and influential but well
worth reading for pleasure (even more so I think in the original easy
French), though funnier/sadder in performance - there are probably good
versions widely available on dvd.  (I'm speaking as someone who finds
_Antigone_, G.B. Shaw, even a lot of Shakespeare a drag.)

Having bothered to write the above, I'd like to recommend another favorite
mid-century play, _The Lady's Not For Burning_ by Christopher Fry.  It's
written in dense verse, but it's beautiful and pointed and funny.
