In recording and recalling real life -- history, current events, news reporting, eyewitness accounts, what happened last night -- complete consistency between accounts is rare. Even the same person will say different things at different times, often with complete sincerity each time. Perhaps Steve's political interests have made him more aware of this fact than most f/sf authors. Whatever the reason, ISTM that given the multiple POVs within the Dragaera oeuvre, the inconsistencies are more realistic than complete consistency would be. -- Mark A.
