Well, besides a larger-than-usual crop of Unreliable Narrators, SKZB has declared two short works that were actually *published* (albeit in relatively limited circulation) to be "not canon". If he can repudiate what he's written, he can certainly repudiate what he's said in an interview. That said, I tend to think he meant it at the time. But if he happens to think of a More Cool possibility for a story that contradicts it, I wouldn't expect him to hesitate for a moment.
