I get the feeling that they thought the cycle turned because Mario killed the Emperor, and Adron messed up the whole thing by trying to mess with the Orb. Mario is held in awe, especially by the Jhereg, and treated as a force of nature by the Phoenix guards (i.e. the whole practice of chalking up Murders as "Mario did it") because he did what should be impossible, the assination of the nearly godlike Emperor.
