In _Yendi_, Vlad forgets some money at Morrolan's, which Teldra kindly reminds him of on his way out. This comes to about twenty thousand Imperials. Assuming they're in one-Imperial coins leads to a bare minimum mass of 20 kilograms (44 pounds), if each imperial weighs one gram (which is improbably tiny -- a nickel weighs about five grams). Since it's referred to in the text as a 'purse,' not a 'bloody heavy sack', 20 kilograms is the absolute top end of weight conceivable, and that's fairly out there. 10 kilos would still be a notable weight to dismiss as a mere 'purse'. The inevitable conclusion is that the Empire does use higher denominations, with a single coin representing a value of gold far in excess of the worth of its metallic weight. These high-denomination coins have never been directly mentioned, to my knowledge. In _Jhereg_, an earlier (pre-Interregnum) Dragon-Jhereg war was noted as having almost eliminated the e'Barritt line. How does that square with Barritt still being alive post-Interregnum? Do the naming conventions of Draconic lines allow for making a line while its founder is still alive? How big and puissant could the e'Barritt line have been during the time of the second Dragon-Jhereg war? Tortaalik reigned for 532 years (thanks Alexx!) before the Disaster, DJW2 happened circa 440BI. Tack on about 500 years between the Disaster and Jhereg and we have about 1000 years. Assuming an upper limit of 3000 years for Barritt's age, he was about 2000 at the time of the Disaster and about 1900 at the time of DJW2. This doesn't seem time enough to have a 'line' prominent enough to have several assassination-worthy members, though I suppose if he spent the time between the ages of 1000 and 1500 being a stupendous enough badass he could inspire a number of Dragons to just take his name, though there's no textev for such a practice being common outside the special case of the Lavodes, which I think hardly counts. Any thoughts on that? pe
