> The hubby and I are going to Vegas for the first time in June. Any > suggestions? 1. Spend mornings poolside. It's relaxing, and it keeps you from dropping the stray $20 into video poker... Save that for the evenings. 2. The distances between the hotels are larger than they seem - rent a car (or take a taxi) if you want to travel further than a block or two >from your hotel. 3. If you rent a car: Valet parking is WORTH IT. Drive to the front of a casino, give car to valet parking attendant. When you come back to claim car, give attendant who returns your car $2-$3. This is MUCH better then walking a half mile in from a million car parking lot. 4. The Cirque du Soleil (at Treasure Island) was the most amazing live show I ever saw. If you don't have tickets, ask about getting in line for returned tickets. It's cheaper, but you have to wait in line for quite a while... 5. Blue Man Group - not so much. I had friends that LOVED BMG, but I was put off when I noticed that the sound system was piping in crowd applause and cheering - presumably to get us pumped and cheering, too. This seemed pretty cheesy to me. 6. The Star Trek Experience (as someone else mentioned) is also pretty cool, if you like that sort of thing. 7. Get directions (or take a taxi) to the Gamblers General Store, in downtown Las Vegas. It has every conceivable gambling item for sale, including chips (cheap and expensive), dice, cards, tables, slot machines (old and new), books, etc... It also has used decks of cards >from all the casinos. It's a neat place to poke around in... 8. The "$10 drink and poker" option is a nice way to sight see and people watch. To do this, you: a. Find a seat at a casino bar with video poker. b. Give bartender $10, ask for a roll of quarters, and order a drink. c. Bartender brings you a $10 roll of quarters, and your drink. d. Sip drink, play quarters ONCE through machine slowly. e. Finish drink, gather remaining quarters, cash them in. f. See how much your drink cost. -Scott
