> > Please share the clues. > > One that I remember happens in...um...I think _Taltos_, is an > exchange between Loiosh and Vlad when Loiosh meets ******* > for the first time. It goes something like this: > > "Boss, have we met her before?" > "I think we'd remember if we had." > "You're probably right." > That's close enough for government work. The irony comes across better when you remember that they're in Dzur Mountain, meeting the legendary Enchantress who just happens to be a vampire to boot. *heh* Other clues off the top of my head (meaning I'm at work without books to reference): In Jhereg, Vlad is making introductions at the start of the "war council". He introduces Kiera and Aliera says "We've met" and Kiera and Aliera smile at each other, which surprises Vlad momentarily. In other words, they behave like friendly acquaintances, not strangers or people who know each other purely by reputation. Innocuous on the face of it, but when you consider that most Jhereg are afraid to be seen with Kiera, (remember how shocked the staff was that Vlad would invite her to the office) it seems even less likely that a dragonlord would be on friendly terms with her. (Of course, they're friends with Vlad so feel free to disagree. *heh*) In light of what we know now, I take it as a hint that Aliera knows the score and is simply sharing the joke with Kiera. In Yendi, Kiera gives Vlad a jewel that she stole from Sethra to help finance his war. When Vlad recognizes it and refuses, she rolls her eyes and tells him that Sethra knows exactly what happened to it and to just accept the help already. Taltos is covered above. Given the outcome, it's now clear why Kiera wasn't overly concerned about Vlad "losing" the vial she'd given him for safekeeping. In fact, it seems likely that some sort of foresight gave her the idea to give him the vial in the first place. Hmmm... That's all I've got off the top of my head. I'd have to review Tekla and Phoenix to see if there's anything in those books. Athyra doesn't involve any of Vlad's friends so it's a non-issue and Orca, well, I guess you could say we get the biggest clue of all there. :-P Kiera doesn't make any appearances in Dragon that I remember so the opportunity doesn't present itself. We're all in on the joke by that time anyway so I don't suppose it much matters. Scott Schultz scott at cjhunter.com
