Publication order still works nicely. It protects you from spoilers and the author assuming you know something from another book. The Omnibus editions make life much easier. You can just hand someone the first couple and say "Hey, you might want to try these." It might be fun to go back and try reading them in as close to chronological order as possible, though. Just for variety.
