I've posted up a new article at Code|Reality: http://codereality.com/the-problem-of-pot/#more-20 "In his landmark New Games Journalism piece, (http://www.statelovesyou.com/wiki/?ViewStateItem&item=a95) "Possessing Barbie", gamer and author Ian 'always_black' Shanahan, writes:
It's a game but it's also real. People are affected by other minds, it's unavoidable. You bring your own morals with you and you set the limits. Kids can't do that. They have fewer warning systems, because they have been hurt less and they are more open. But they want to explore and there are people who will take advantage of that innocence and curiosity.
http://www.alwaysblack.com/blackbox/possessingbarbie.html Those words would come back to me much sooner than I expected. I can't tell you much about Warcraft III other than that it is an insanely popular Real-time Strategy Game (RTS), and Blizzard's Warcraft franchise has spawned a cottage industry that is nearly a Golden Goose of prosperity. I can tell you about one young man who is very good at the game, and wants to (alternately) pit himself again human opponents, and (conversely) fit in with other like-minded online strategy games players. What can I say? He's male, and he wants to compete. Go figure. But there's more to it than that. For one thing, he's eleven. For another, he's my son."
