In addition, Vlad performs various bits of sorcery -- besides the teleport, there's also a brief mention of him making light (and Savn's Paener can also do that, extending the amount of time they can work at the harvest). And there's also the witchcraft thing with the green stone (perhaps a bit of polished malachite?). Anyway, I think I have seen enough to agree with the conclusion that Vlad did not have the gold Phoenix stone in /Athyra/. It seems reasonable that the events that occurred in that story may well have prompted him to procure such a stone, against future encounters with sorcerers and wizards and such. While I was looking for references to sorcery, I realized that Master Wag almost certainly knows some sorcery - he has a book on sorcerous healing, and how else how would he be able to tell that Reins was not murdered using sorcery?
