Given the multitude of different reading speeds and available time values among the list, it seems reasonable to ask people to read from the beginning at their own comfortable reading speed, and post whatever points of interest occur on the way. With everyone starting at the same time, there should be relatively little divergence within the space of a single work. The benefit of the mailing list format is that messages don't go away, they just queue; slower readers can catch up without losing any of the prior discussions.
