Well, I do know this, though I haven't seen all that many <35 inch
schlagers.
The small ones, aside from taper (and weight, but that's actually less
of an issue than length for handling characteristics) aren't that far

Quite. A lot of people use, and even do well with, things that would
never have worked were the blades sharp.

Good -- even if my use of the double-negative (sorta) made it hard for
me to tell if I got it right [simplified: I think historical fencing and
manuals of same is and are a better model for Dragaeran/Eastern than
either modern or SCA fencing]. :)
