It is logical to assume that "her arts" means "sorcery" but there is the possibility it means something else. However, Orlaan is using sorcery during the Interregnum, and others have indicated that it was possible, but really hard. Perhaps initially right after the Orb was sent to the Paths of the Dead, she looked like an old hag, and made that her first priority. Rachel
