I have no idea.  It does seem to me that it's only recently that the
technology to do it well has been around.

Do you really *want* it to happen?  Movies made from good books are
essentially always pale reflections of the original *at best* -- often
they're abominations.  Original movies, or movies from shorter
originals, are much more interesting.

No, not even close.  This is a fantasy book involving non-human
creatures on screen a LOT of the time.  This can't be done well as a
no-budget job (which is about where 10 million falls).

Blockbusters don't happen for a 10 million production budget, among
other things.
