It was also said in one of the books (possibly _Taltos_) that Sethra was responsible for helping ensure Zerika's birth and safety in the last moments before Adron's Disaster. Perhaps Sethra really was hedging her bets and was doing her utmost to ensure a clear successor for both Houses, just in case. That, or Paarfi's really bad at getting information in regards to Morrolan and Sethra.. or maybe Vlad just doesn't know them as well as he claims. Looks like we're getting back to the Paarfi vs Vlad problem.
