OK, now, in _Teckla_ who's the Teckla whose lord was killed in some >sorcerous war and who then learned sorcery from said lord's library? Paresh, in pp 27-32, in the Aisse PB edition. >That lord was a Dzur. That lord's own overlord came knocking at the door >looking for gya*. The idea discussed was that the Dzurlord was Tazendra >and the overlord was Aerich, and IIRC it seemed pretty plausible. *If* >that's the case, Tazendra is dead by the time of _Issola_. > Re-reading that section, I note that some things seem to be wrong for that scenario, although Paresh may be unreliable on those details. Paresh describes these events occurring when he is about 81 (he is granted lands when he reaches 60 (which seems astonishingly young), and was working them for 21 years when the attack hits the keep to the south, and then later his own house and lands), and his tale appears to have occured after the Interregnum ("My master had distinguished herself before the Interregnum during some war with the East", and at the end of his conflict with the Lyorn, he teleports). The bit about the East hints at Tazendra, yet I note that Tazendra was actually involved in a peace treaty rather than war, and really, helping the Phoenix Empress retrieve the Orb from the Paths of the Dead is rather more distinguishing, *I* think. He also says that his master was "old", which seems wrong, since Tazendra should be just about 1000, although his perspective may be skewed by his youth. More tellingly, the Lyorn lord who announces himself as the Duke of Arylle is far, far too young to be Aerich (Paresh says of him "about my age"). I don't know how significant it is, but Paresh never says that he is >from the Barony of Daavya. The Lyorn doesn't claim to be the overlord of the Barony; he just asks to speak to Paresh's master. Paresh does suggest that the Lyorn might have come to request tribute. Hmm. I see that the Dragaera timeline covers most of this already: http://world.std.com/~alexx/timeline.txt (search on Paresh) To sum up, it seems possible, but not certain, that the Dzurlord was Tazendra, but it seems almost impossible that the Lyorn was Aerich.
