Here's a thought, which goes along with the "conduit to a pocket
dimension" notion I just revisited:

The difference between a "weak" Morganti and a "strong" Morganti might
mean that (a) the weak Morganti just has a very small storage space to
begin with or (b) it has shredded & stored so many souls that it has
much less room left for more souls.

Dunno, but it was pretty clever.  I wonder if perhaps the "pull on the
life-force" can be necromantically emulated, and maybe it just looked
and felt like a Morganti sword without actually being one?
