ISTR that somewhere we hear that lineage goes through the same-sex
parent: mother to daughter, father to son. In that case, two close
relatives could easily be of different lineages; e.g. I and my first
cousin, whose mother was my father's sister. I'd be of the lineage of
our shared grandfather, while he would get his lineage from his father,
who is no relation to me except by marriage (my uncle by marriage).
