In our universe, orca are darn smart. They navigate using sight and sound,
by wind and current, and, some think, by the stars. There is at least some
indication that some whales can follow magnetic lines--the locations of
mass and repeated strandings tend to be where magnetic field contours are
perpendicular to the shore.
