Well, she didn't say "Thanks for the present, Mom," instead. OTOH, one of the reasons I like Brust is that when he writes a goddess' daughter in, it doesn't mean that the goddess will bestow all sorts of neat things on said daughter in exchange for doing what she's told. (ie, as far as I know, Aliera wasn't conceived, nor was she given Pathfinder, so she could go to Fenario and reverse things so Verra could show up there again). So maybe Aliera isn't in the habit of getting neat presents from Mommy in the first place. > > > Therefore, we know that they are able to manipulate events, and, may I say, > > seem to have a potential to very *strongly* influence those events...If > > But how? They are definitely Morganti - and if low-power Morganti weapons can eat souls, perhaps high-power Morganti weapons can nudge souls? Or at least give slight "your soul is about to be eaten" feelings every time someone thinks of doing something they don't want said person to do? If most people can 'feel' a Morganti weapon, there seems to be some psychic ability on the part of Morganti weapons to begin with, and Morganti weapons do have a 'kind of sentience'. Blackwand appears to be able to operate on its own, too. Hmm - wonder exactly what 'kind of sentience' is meant? Be interesting to find out if wielders of Great Weapons understand the Serioli better than non-wielders. (sorta, if the sentience is Serioli-style, odds are better that the GW are doing what they were designed to do, as opposed to if GW sentience is as alien to the Serioli as it is to everyone else).
