I suspect there's more to it than just appearance.
Mannerisms, movement, the "air of nobility", and
other particulars, even if a Teckla *looks* like
a Chreotha, would make someone think something's
off.  The only House I recall that can easily look
and act like another is the Yendi.

As for _TPG_, they only changed names, not houses.
Only Pel, the rascal, has dressed up and acted like
a member of another house.

Though, I suppose, a Teckla sorcerer who's also a decent
actor could pull it off (now that I think of it, Mario
did a decent Dragon impression, but I suspect his acting
skills, like Vlad's, are pretty good).
