For some series I'll reread all the previous books so that I'll be
rereading the new one in sequence and with all the previous stories
fresh in my mind. I'm less likely to do this if an author is popping
out books in a timely fashion or if the series is very long. In those
cases I might just re-read the most recent, or settle for periodically
rereading the whole thing. Most authors don't go 8 years without a
sequel.

I do a lot of re-reading just for the fun of it. Not preparing for a
new book, but just because I'm in the mood to read a favorite book.
Brust novels get a lot of wear and tear this way.

I think I re-read TPG and FHYA in preparation for Sethra Lavode. I
was trying for the whole series, but fell behind.

This I've never done, beyond a very minor lookup. Not so much
re-reading a portion as quick fact checking. That's very rare. On
the whole I try to accept any book as written and not look for cracks
and shards while I'm reading it. I'm not a very analytical reader
when I'm reading fiction.
