Brust >To Steve, >God bless and help you and your doctors. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. >To medical people on the list, >So eye infections...is this normal that an eye infection >would keep coming back? Yes and no. Depends on the cause. >Is an eye infection in the eyeball or behind it or in the surronding tissue? Yes, depending on what type. It can be one, two or in immunocompromised patients all three. >Can a doctor look in the eyeball and see the infection? Yes, that's how we know it's infected. >Or do they just assume if the symptons are gone, the infection is >gone? It depends on the infection. I do treat less exteme versions of Steve's infection with oral Antibiotics. Once the patient get's to the point where they need IV antibiotics I refer them to hospital based care, usually infectious disease, internal medicine, or a hospital based Pediatric Ophthalmologist. Pediatric Opthalmologists see many of these types of infections as they are more common in kids. John D. Barbato OD, Optometric Physician(EYE DOCOTOR)
