Not exactly true; the Great Weapons are items that tap
directly into amorphia, which is to say that they use
'Pre-Empire' sorcery, or mystic/psychic styles that
are so similar as to make no nevermind. The fact that
Vlad is, in one sense, playing at a WHOLE new level
means that he's got a new slew of enemies; the fact
that he's still an Easterner ex-assassin
casual-sorcerer casual-witch fencer with a jhereg and
its mate on his shoulders and the entire
Verra-be-damned House of Jhereg after his head means
that his old enemies still have a pretty decent chance
of doing serious damage to him. Godslayer may be a
Great Weapon and thus scare the piss out of everyone
around her when she's drawn (likely), but she IS still
a dagger -- and there IS still only one of Vlad,
although he's been damn lucky in the past...

Nope. Go back to the descriptions of the three Great
Weapons whose acquisitions are told -- Lady Teldra,
Blackwand, and Pathfinder. In each and every example,
the new wielder, the -right- wielder, has felt that
same rushing surge of power, energy, and well-being.
(And now Vlad knows the reason behind that, and I'm
pretty sure I do, too.)

Easterners have plenty of gods.

Heh. I can see the conversation now.

"What do your Great Weapons do?"\
"Hi, I'm Morrolan, and Blackwand destroys armies."
"I'm Aliera, and Pathfinder locates anything."
"I'm Vlad, and Godslayer lets me emit sparks."
"..."

"..."
"... err, yeah. That's about it."
