I hated it not because of the plot (hell, I don't even remember the plot) or the setting (that either, though "do the job" does ring a faint bell), but because the driving energy that moves the typical Brust book along, that keeps you turning pages until you reach the end, gasping for more... Was entirely missing. It wasn't anything close to a page-turner, was almost boring in comparison, and was therefore a disappointment.
