It never occurred to me that someone might not like CF until reading messages on this list. I like it not so much for the plot or characterization (although travelling by way of nuclear bomb in a non-Orion context I find highly colorful, to say the least!), but for the descriptions of music & music-making. I've been *trying* to learn to play-by-ear for some time now, consequently play a lot of Celtic & Old Time music on my hammered dulcimer, and the descriptions drew me in completely. It's pretty rare to find descriptions of music-making that actually work, not just in SF or fantasy, but in all of literature--I doubt I could name more than half a dozen, & Hesse & Mann are prety suspect. So don't nobody be dissing CF around *me*, thank you very much! Ummm. . . a beginner's slow jam session/class tonight, as I check my calendar. Better brush up St. Anne's, Peg Ryan's, Harvest Home, Soldier's Joy, New Rigged Ship et al. . . . Snarkhunter
