What are the obvious hanging plot hooks?

Hmmm; plagues of locusts and such?  Maybe they were kinda localized.

It could be interesting; depends on what the story actually and what
the young character is like.  If done badly, could make me annoyed,
certainly.  There's always that risk in a series when you reach back.
