Actually, I think those *are* the long whatamacallit 
feathers of the wings, though it looks like he's trying to
curl his wings into a pair of tubes.

I think that's not a typo.  I can't find the right words to
explain.

Missed that.  So they did have petroleum refining before the
Interregnum (or its an anachronism curtesy of Paarfi).

I noticed on this reading that Pel was repeatedly described
as short.
