series advice

When to stop reading a series?  The "Casca" series by Barry Sadler.
Good story... Very original... but when you get around volume 15 (out of
23) it becomes pretty clear that the muse has abandoned the author.  On
the other hand, I (and many others) continued to buy them.  
Make of that what you will.
