For me it's an issue of memory vs. money: it depends on how complex
the series is and how long ago I last read them, and the fact that
I feel really guilty re-reading books I don't own.

Back when I was still reading the Wheel of Time, I did a full
re-read every release, and I'm currently doing this for Girl
Genius. Also, I'm just finishing up a re-read of Rosemary
Kirstein's novels, and I'll do a full re-read of Lemony Snicket
real soon (and possibly Jim Butcher too). I (thankfully) don't
feel any need to re-read Terry Pratchett nor Carole Nelson Douglas
(though I own a complete set of the former). I haven't decided
yet what to do about George RR Martin.

Hmm... I started reading Brust after _Dragon_, but I think I did do
a full Dragaera re-read for _Issola_. I think I re-read TPG and
FHYA before POTD, and I know I re-read POTD for LOCB and POTD and
LOCB before SL.

I might pause to look something up, but it's more likely I'll
finish the new book then do a full re-read (usually including the
new book too).
